Temporary Service Suspension

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our ATSC over the air broadcast is temporarily off the air.

The 49 year old elevator in our building was due to be replaced this winter starting on January 15th. The motor running the old elevator unfortunately overheated to the point of melting the motor windings and failed on January the 3rd. There is no replacement for the motor available due to the age.

We are located at the top of the hill at Main and Gerrard Sts and broadcast from a small tower located on the rooftop of our building. The transmitter and other equipment is located in the elevator shaft area and the equipment rack is in the way of installing the new elevator.

We took the station off the air and removed the equipment on January 8th. We will continue running our streaming service with a reduced schedule. You can access this stream by downloading our player from our website tobroadcast.com

We plan on being back on the air sometime in March. In the meantime we will do some much needed upgrades and repairs to our infrastructure.

Service Suspension Update

Hi, this is Jan Pachul founder and operator of Star Ray TV. The Main Gerrard Co-op management is preventing us from reinstalling the equipment needed to get Star Ray back on the air. I got a nasty letter from theCo-op Manager which says the following: "as you know, the co-op removed equipment that you had installed in the elevator mechanical area. You are not permitted to install or store any equipment in that area. We were advised by the Technical Standards and Safety authority that no equipment can be stored or installed there. Installing equipment in that area is also a breach of the lease. The lease does not permit you to install equipment in that area."

The rack has been in the same location for 26 years without any Inspector saying anything. I contacted the TSSA and explained the situation. The TSSA told me the rack was fine were it was as long as it wasn't obstructing the door to the elevator room in any way. The rack was located several feet from the door.

We removed the sensitive equipment and by hand carried it all down six flights of stairs. The Co-op Maintenance Coordinator who seemed friendly at the time offered to disconnect the power and remove the rack and store it for us. I have recently asked the Coordinator were is the rack? He says he, "doesn't know were it is." I became suspicious when I fished out mounting hardware and other items that I knew were in the rack from a dumpster that Co-op had. This appears to be theft.

Both my partner and myself are quite depressed about not being on the air and running the station. During this time period Shadow the Wonder Dog our Mascot died suddenly. It's been a real tough time.
