Riverdale Immigrant Women's Centre is a charitable organization operating to support Chinese speaking and South Asian women to take control of their lives. RIWC provides culturally appropriate and linguistically specific settlement and counselling services, with the use of community determined stategies which are developed and delivered by immigrant women. Unless local stories of struggle are brought before the public by the media, our society will not act out of a spirit of commitment to social justice values. Recently I was involved in a public demonstration of support of aborginal people along with a large group of women activists. I was appalled to see that evening no coverage of our event or the statement we issued. Mr. Pachul's openness to community participation has convinced me that finally we will have regular public forum to make an honest presentation of the important issues of poverty, race, and gender. Please support this important step in democratizing the media. Sincerely, Nuzhath Leedham, Executive Director **End of document** |
