From: Paul Baines pjbaines@yahoo.ca To: srtv@srtv.on.ca Subject: crtc intervention (sent sep. to crtc) Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2001 12:00 AM Dear Secretary General 1. star ray tv needs a licence to uphold the value of the canadian broadcasting act. 2. canadian broadcasting should not be strickly a commercial business for a handful of owners. the diversity of ideas and people in canada can only be presented by diversity of ownership. 3. the crtc should reclaim all the community tv licences from commercial cable operators and allow individuals and communities to operate them themselves. contemporary research on canadian community tv shows that the quality of community tv has been deformed by cable op. ownership. 4. any new policy for community broadcasting should promote the goals of diversity (not branding), participation (not passivity), decentralization (not convergence), and greater funds for community tv (not corporate mass produced slop). paul baines whitby, ontario ***end of document**** |
