Canada M6P 3A3 (416)767-7590 Secretary General, Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, Dear Secretary General: 1.I've known Jan Pachul almost twelve years and am quite excited about his plans to establish a community television channel. I've already indicated to him that I would be happy to offer my services on a volunteer basis in order to help him with the initial launch.. 2. There is a need for community based station in Toronto, a city of regional and national stations, even regional cable "community stations." There is also a need for the universal access to television that over the air UHF broadcasting provides the community as cable's influence over broadcast distribution lessens with the advent of the M.D.S. {Look TV), the Internet, and satellite. Certainly "Prime Time for Canadians" is worthy of support by everyone wishing to maintain a Canadian identity in an increasingly hostile global corporate broadcasting environment. Mr Pachul's proposal is a good one and has already aroused interest in the community. 3. My intention is to help Mr. Pachul and Star Ray TV to achieve the goal of establishing a true community station, one that will put aside the usual lip service and direct positive energies in helping the community. In volunteering I will be bringing 30 years experience in broadcast television as a performer, writer, teacher, director and producer. Previously I have taught TV production at Trebas Institute in Toronto. The young people coming out of those courses, not only at Trebas, but at Ryerson and other schools are having a difficult time finding jobs. Volunteer internships at this station will help them launch their careers. From this perspective there is a desperate need for such undertakings. 4. Please approve Jan Pachul's application.
