I am writing in support of Star Ray TV. I speak as an individual, and not as the official mouthpiece of the Green Party of Ontario, although I am a Councillor. I believe that locally-based low power television stations have a significant role to play in the life of any community. They are an opportunity to raise public awareness of important local issues, as well as a chance for smaller, less well funded organizations to disseminate information to the public. I am not entirely against large corporate participation in the media, but I do think that a wide cross-section of television stations, competing with smaller, more grass-roots stations is a healthy, diverse media environment. If the smaller stations do not succeed, then that is their own fault, but outlawing them introduces an inordinate counterbalance to the competitve equation, especially when government regulations do not adequately oppose significant transgressions made by larger companies. The system must not merely seem to be fair, but in actual fact, BE fair.

Thank you very much,

Gregory Elliott Laxton
