While I appreciate the need to have a body such as the CRTC ruling to bring order into the airwaves of Canadian broadcasting, I believe Jan Pachul’s efforts to bring low-power television into the local areas of Toronto East is something that deserves your support. Please allow him to continue.

From what I know, he has helped give television a better local profile, helping various groups and individuals to get air time they would have been denied without the broadcasts on UHF channel 15.

I myself have prepared several episodes of a show called “Carmin’s Offbeat Toronto”, which I have made available to Star Ray TV at no charge. By commercial broadcasting standards, my production would be considered hopelessly amateurish: it is videotaped with a home camcorder, and the resulting tape has almost no editing. Channel 15 has given me a chance to do these local walking tours in an entertaining way, and feedback from viewers indicates that they like them. People have stopped me on the street to thank me for my effort, and I’m pleased to received a bit of recognition. It wouldn’t have happened without Jan Pachul’s Star Ray TV on channel 15. If you wish, I can supply copies of these programs to you.

I have heard that the CRTC is still reviewing the future role of low-power local broadcasting. Until a final policy is set, it would be a benefit to the people of Toronto to continue to have this service. I know for a fact that people watch the channel. And the station gives an opportunity to small producers such as myself to express ourselves.

Sincerely,

Carmin Priolo,
