November 7th, 1999. Beverley O'Connor 33 Kildonan Road Toronto, Ontario M4E 2N5 To whom it may concern: Dear Sir or Madam; I would like to state my support for the proposed Star Ray Community television channel. Here in the East End of Toronto there tends to be a real neighborhood spirit, where you know your neighbor and their kids. As our city grows and expands it becomes harder and harder to maintain this way of life. The busier the life the more isolated the people become. I don't want this pocket of warmth to disappear from our area. I would much rather see it grow and expand throughout all of Toronto. You must be well aware of the countless reports stating how beneficial it is for children to be involved in regular team sports and activities. Here is another way to recognize and encourage them. If some of these games and events can be televised it may just get more kids out there participating. I look at the proposed ideas as being nothing but good for the Beaches area. We always here about Canadian television stations and there Canadian content. I like the idea of "local community content". Some of the Toronto stations did, and still try, to feature local news But as they expand so does there audience so local becomes less important. Too many families feel they must move away to a small town to get a close and friendly neighborhood. I suggest we work on keeping that here, in the city. A community television can definitely help maintain and, hopefully, expand it. Sincerely yours, B. O'Connor |
